Everyday Life in Saigon at 72 Why I Love My Neighborhood
I’m 72, divorced twice, living in Vietnam — and yes, I’m still dating. Recently, I was approached by someone developing a resource for foreign men interested in dating Vietnamese women. She wanted to hear about my experiences because I’ve spent years dating, using apps, meeting people through introductions, and learning what works — and what doesn’t. I’ve used Bumble, Hinge, Tinder, Match and now VietnamCupid. But the app isn’t the strategy. For me, dating is about being intentional. I look at communication, family background, education, work ethic, relationship history and, most importantly, behavior. Because nobody is perfect. And you don’t really know somebody from what they say. It’s the actions. It’s the behavior. It takes time. At this stage of my life, I’m looking for three things: Peace. Calm. Compatibility. Do we enjoy some of the same things? Can we spend time together without unnecessary drama? Can we respect each other’s lives, priorities and independence? After six months in Vietnam, I’ve also realized something else: I’m still working. I’m still doing deals. I’m building businesses, creating content and building this next chapter of my life. So getting serious with somebody isn’t my number-one priority right now. My business matters. My fitness matters. My health matters. And protecting my peace matters.
